FLY OF THE MONTH

“Worms !”

I use these patterns all year long. I find them even more effective after rain storms, when inch worms are hanging from trees, and during early season trout fishing.

The Green Weenie

Hook – Size #10 Nymph hook.

Thread - Green or red.

Body – Flourescent green Medium chenille weighted with lead wire.

This fly is tied with at least a ¼” loop at the bend of the hook. The loop is extremely important. It provides movement in the water. For the rest of the body wrap
the chenille up the shank and tie it off. Unweighted versions can be greased with floatant and used for inch worms.

The “Improved” (with bead) San Juan Worm

Hook – Tiemco 200R, size 10.

Thread – Pink/red 6/0.

Body – (front & rear) – Medium pink vernelle/chenille.

Bead – Gold, behind first segment.

Band – Dub Orange/amber “light bright” or “super bright”.

Rib: Gold rib palmered through band.

If you have any questions about this fly or would like to submit a Fly of the Month I can be reached at 203 734-7879 or e-mail me at pdinice@snet.net. I will be
tying it at the next HFFA meeting.
