When I was first learning to tie flies I was having a great deal of trouble mastering the art
of evenly tying the wings of a Black Ghost onto the hook shank. A more experienced fly
fishing friend suggested I tie the wing with marabou. “There’s more movement and it
catches more fish”. Well I did exactly that. It’s now one of my favorite streamers. What I
also like about it is that in the water it has a slimmer profile with more movement. At times
I’ve found that that can make all the difference in the world. Don’t forget to vary your
retrieves, dead drift it, and get read for those swings at the end of your drift. Another
option is to tie the wing with a rabbit zonker strip. Palmer the silver rib through the rabbit
like you would with any other zonker.
I’ll be tying this fly at the next H.F.F.A. meeting in May.
